Support for Families

Within this section of the website you will find information about the wide range of supports available to families nationally and in Edinburgh.

Financial Supports

Please find below details of financial supports available nationally and in Edinburgh.

On ParentPay you will find an item named the ‘Colinton Opportunities Fund’ – this is set up to raise additional money for pupils in our school. This is a quick and easy way for families to contribute to the school if they wish to do so. It helps us with subsidising trips, providing equipment, uniform, resources, and opportunities for those needing a helping hand.

If you would like to help, and are financially able, you can donate any amount, at any time, from your ParentPay account. Go to ‘active payment items’, click on ‘Opportunities Fund’ and type the amount you wish to donate.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school in complete confidence should you have any questions or ideas and if you require further assistance or advice about financial concerns.

We will always be happy to help. admin@colinton.edin.sch.uk

Colinton Primary’s Equity Statement

Please have a look at our whole school ‘Equity Position Statement’ – this information leaflet details how we are tackling the ‘cost of the school day’ and reducing financial burdens for all our families.

Scottish Child Payment and Best Start Grant/Foods

Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods are payments that help towards the costs of being pregnant or looking after a child. They’re part of the 5 family payments you may be able to get from Social Security Scotland, along with Scottish Child Payment.

This fund provides warm clothing, including jackets and shoes, for children.

Free Bus Travel

All young people under 22 are entitled to free bus travel. We realise that not all families will have time or technology to apply for a free bus pass (with their National Entitlement Card) but we are keen to encourage all our families to apply and are always happy to help.

You can get support with your application at your local Library.  Please take proof of address, confirmation of your child’s identity (birth certificate or passport) and a photograph (12 years and above) and they will help you complete the form.

The website, freebus.scot has lots of information about free bus travel, how it works, how to apply, the benefits and some tips for travelling safely too.
